This file can be any length.
New Help topics begin with the ">" character, followed by the
numeric code assigned to the topic.
>INDEX
>100 ( About 3D Studio... ! )
About 3D Studio displays the program version number, copyright
notice, and your serial number.
>110 ( Current Status ? )
Current Status shows the number of graphic components in
memory, amount of available memory, amount of used memory,
size of the swap file on disk, number of times 3D Studio has
paged out to disk in the current session, and time taken to
complete the last rendering.
>120 ( Configure * )
Configure lets you define your input device and change default file
paths and map paths.
>125 ( System Options )
System Options lets you set some system parameters in your 3ds.set file
for the current session.
>130 ( Scene Info )
Scene Info lets you view, print, or save to disk an ASCII list of the
current 3D scene.
>140 ( Key Assignments )
Key Assignments lets you view or print the key assignments (and
those still available for assignment) in the current program
module.
>150 ( Gamma Control )
Gamma Control lets you calibrate 3D Studio to your monitor
display gamma, and specify file input and output gamma.
>200 ( New N )
New erases from memory all data in the current module. It
doesn't affect files on disk. In the 2D Shaper, it erases shapes and
polygons; in the 3D Lofter, it erases loft shapes and resets the path
and settings; and in the 3D Editor or Keyframer, it lets you
determine what data to erase.
>205 ( Reset )
Reset erases all data from memory and restores all program
modules to their default settings. It doesn't affect files on disk.
>210 ( Load ^L )
Load loads a file, replacing all data in the current module.
>220 ( Merge ^M )
Merge loads an existing file and combines it with the data
currently in memory. In the 3D Editor and Keyframer you can
specify the data you want to merge. This command is not
available in the 3D Lofter.
>225 ( Replace Mesh ^R )
Replace Mesh replaces objects in the current scene with objects of
the same name from another .3ds file. Replaced objects are lost.
>230 ( Save ^S )
Save saves the data in the current module.
>231 ( Save Selected )
Save Selected saves objects that are in a selection set in the 3D
Editor.
>250 ( Load Project ^J )
Load Project loads a project (.prj) file, replacing the current data,
settings, and configurations in all program modules.
>260 ( Save Project ^P )
Save Project saves the current data in all program modules (plus
the current settings and system configurations) to a project (.prj)
file.
>265 ( Merge Project )
Merge Project loads a project (.prj) file and combines its mesh
objects, lights, cameras, and animation objects with those
currently in memory. This command doesn't affect system
settings and geometry in the 2D Shaper and 3D Lofter.
>270 ( Archive )
Archive creates a compressed file using pkzip.exe. The resulting
archive file includes a project (.prj) file of the current scene, plus
associated bitmap files.
>232 ( File Info )
File Info lets you view information about a selected file.
>234 ( Rename )
Rename lets you rename a selected file.
>235 ( Delete ^D )
Delete deletes a selected file permanently.
>240 ( Quit Q )
Quit displays a message asking if you want to exit 3D Studio. If
you click Yes and unsaved data exists, a message appears
indicating which modules contain unsaved data. Quitting 3D
Studio erases all data and settings in all modules.
>300 ( Redraw ` )
Redraw redraws the current viewport.
>305 ( Redraw All ~ )
Redraw All redraws all viewports.
>310 ( Viewports ^V )

>320 ( Drawing Aids ^A )
Drawing Aids adjusts the spacing for grid and snap and the
degree of angle snap.
>330 ( Grid Extents E )
Grid Extents lets you set the size of the grid by clicking opposite
corners in a two-dimensional, orthographic viewport.
>340 ( Unit Setup ^U )
Unit Setup defines the measurement of unit notation and unit
scale that 3D Studio uses and the status line displays.
>350 ( Use Snap S )
Use Snap turns snap on or off in the active viewport. Turning
snap on constrains cursor movement to the increments you
specified in the Drawing Aids dialog box.
>360 ( Use Grid G )
Use Grid turns the grid on or off in the active viewport. Turning
the grid on causes a grid of dots to appear over the area you
specified in the Drawing Aids dialog box.
>380 ( Fastview V )
Fastview turns Fastview mode on or off in the active viewport.
Turning Fastview on increases drawing speed by redrawing
objects with fewer faces than before.
>370 ( Disable D )
Disable turns the display of the current viewport on or off.
>397 ( Scroll Lock I )
Scroll Lock prevents automatic scrolling in the active viewport
when the cursor reaches the viewport boundary. Use this when
you trace over a bitmap displayed with the See Backgrnd
command.
>390 ( Safe Frame @E )
Safe Frame turns the safe frame on or off in the active viewport.
>391 ( See Backgrnd @G )
See Backgrnd displays a monochrome copy of the current
background image in the active viewport.
>392 ( Adj Backgrnd )

image displayed with See Backgrnd. It lets you determine how
the image is distributed among dark gray, medium gray, and light
gray.
>366 ( Vertex Snap @V )
Vertex Snap snaps the position of a moved vertex to that of a
second vertex, as seen on the 2D plane of the active viewport.
This command is available in the 3D Editor only.
>395 ( Save Current [ )
Save Current stores the configuration of the active viewport in a
temporary buffer.
>396 ( Restore Saved { )
Restore Saved replaces the configuration of the active viewport
with the configuration you stored using Save Current.
>365 ( Angle Snap A )
Angle Snap, when turned on, constrains all angle operations to
the degree you specified in the Drawing Aids dialog box. It
affects all rotate and bend operations, rotation of the User
viewport, functions affecting the camera roll and field of view,
and the hotspot and falloff angles in spotlights.
